The Business Case For Youth Mentoring

Employers across the nation have demonstrated their deep commitment to the concept of youth mentoring and understand that mentoring today's youth makes sense from multiple business perspectives:

  • Engaging employees, providing opportunities for skill building and retention.

  • Developing the future talent pipeline by preparing young people for college and careers.

  • Strengthening viable communities.

Employees who work for companies that encourage volunteers report increased job satisfaction, a strong connection to the community, and a more positive feeling about their employer. Here are three ways to engage your employees in one of the most rewarding and impactful volunteer experiences available with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Host a recruitment event

Hundreds of Central Arkansas youth are waiting to be paired with a caring adult. Help us share our youth mentoring opportunities with your employees by hosting a recruitment event, such as:

  • Lunch and Learn

  • Happy Hour

  • Company Volunteer Fair

  • Customized it to fit your company needs (intranet, newsletter, poster in staff lounge, etc.

Volunteer as a corporate group

We have several group mentoring program opportunities for employees to volunteer. Our Site Based programs Bigs Afterschool, Bigs In School, and Beyond School Walls, offer opportunities for employees to volunteer at various times as a group. Bigs in School and Bigs Afterschool take you where young people are at school and after school. Beyond School Walls bring youth to your workplace to learn about carer, do arts and crafts, play games, or just talk. BBBS staff provide support, coordinate activities, and ensure safety.

Launch an Internally Led Recruitment Campaign

  • Designate a Youth Mentoring Champion within your organization

  • Set a goal for how many mentors you want to recruit.

  • Work with BBBSCA to launch an effective mentor recruitment campaign. BBBSCA will provide co-branded marketing materials to assist with the effort.
