Little Rock, AR (October 7, 2021) ---Today, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas paid tribute to Big Brother Oscar David Washington, Jr. by revealing one of several awards named in his honor. The overall fundraising champion of our annual fundraiser, Bowl for Kids' Sake, is now named the Oscar David Washington, Jr Cup.
Oscar Washington served as a Deacon at Saint Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a faithful volunteer, mentor, and leader of various organizations such as Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Big Brothers Big Sisters Agency of Pulaski Country, Pulaski Technical College, Alumni Association for the University of Central Arkansas, the Arkansas Home Builders Association, American Heart Association, and more.
"Oscar embodied everything about what our organization stands for. We want to award the overall fundraising champion with the Oscar David Washington Jr. Cup.", said Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas CEO, Raymond Long.
"We are very honored to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters. This has special meaning not only to me but also to his legacy and what he stood for. Thank you.", said Doris Washington, wife of the late Oscar Washington Jr.
Oscar Washington, Jr. was a loving husband to his wife, Doris, a dedicated father of his two daughters, Stephanie and Sydnie, and a committed and highly regarded employee of Entergy Arkansas. He had recently been promoted to Vice President of Customer Service, when he unexpectedly passed away. In addition to his love for Christ, his family and career, Oscar placed high value on education. He was passionate about helping young people find success in life, and the OWJEF Scholarships will honor his memory in a way that will benefit generations into the future. The Oscar Washington Educational Fund seeks to ignite the power of purpose, knit generous hearts with education and provide scholarships to propel the next generation further, for the good of all.
